I mean "what said Northwest Airlines president"

Clever American Airlines (AA) mechanics in Tulsa had figured out how to do it by removing the engines and pylons all at once using a forklift! This nonstandard procedure saved approximately 200 man hours but often damaged the pylons which hold the engine in place"

"It was later determined American and Continental Airlines were not following the McDonnell Douglas (MD) procedures for removing engine pylons for maintenance (nor were they required to). MD's instructions involved removing the 13,500 pound engines from the pylons (which hold the engines on the wing) and then removing the nearly 2,000 pound pylons.

According what said Northwest Airlines, that's not true, he referred the DC-10 as a trustful and pleasant to fly plane which will be missed for sure. And if you are going to refer me to the AA191 crash that was due to a wrong changing engine procedure which severed one of the pylons

You mean the DC-10-30, which has center gear, but this one is a DC-10-10, this initial version was lighter, thus the lack of central gear

the most important difference is, that the MD-11 has a "Glas-Cockpit", meaning it is all digitalized. The DC-10 had a Cockpit which needed three persons do operate (Pilot, Copilot, Flight Engineer) the MD-11 doesn't need a Flight Engineer, besides that, the Engines and aerodynamic properties are enhanced, as well as the fuselage is stretched

DC-10 also had center gear, MD-11 only has two wheel struts in the rear.

the only difference that I notice between DC10 and MD11 is: MD11 has the wings bent up and the end. DC10 has flat wings. |
