This is from the Mt. Fuji jazz fest - August, 1986... Also with Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams. Sorry it cuts off at 10 minutes, but that's all YouTube will allow. Also, this came off a VHS tape with some tracking problems but is still pretty watchable. You can see part 2 at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Where's this, monterey or newport? Freddies and Joe's solo's are well below their established standard of excellence.Drummer(tony w),is much to busy, lacking subtlety.A great group, but not on this occasion. Slimpauli

Thanks for posting this. I had the pleasure of being on stage in the wings at this historic moment. Fond memories of my interviews with Herbie, Joe and the mad man, Freddie Hubbard. He's a crazy Cat...in a complimentary sense. The Mt. Fuji Jazz series was a world class event filled with aaaawesome moments and performances like this one. What a great three day outing it was. Chilling in the shadows of Mt. Fuji and enjoying the beautiful surrounding lakes with food, drinks and Jazz. Thanks again!

When you play real music instruments (drums too!) in jazz and classical music there are certain passages or stretches in the music where you can get a feeling of euphoria. This set right here has me all opiated up! "The Pheromones of Music",overtones and harmonics....this set is rife with them. And i love reading through all the wonderful comments too!

These are the real hard-core jazz musicians!I am like everyone else, we are all just blown away by this set!Joe Henderson......"quiet greatness".This is all just 'pure-d-dope'!

Herbie Hancock. Genius. I've been listening to him all my life. I'm only 16.

And...well...how is this germane to the incredible song playing right now? well, it is the very song that will be kicking off my funeral music program. delicious. I really can't wait to see the look on everyone's face...lol....i mean... wait.....ohhhh, i see. my mistake. muffins on the house everyone. banana-nut or woody allen?
