In my experience, it is best to learn flat pick first, then fingerpicking. I've known musicians who once they have learned fingerpicking have great difficulty learning to move their rhythm hand from the elbow.So my suggestion would be to learn both at the same time or flatpicking first.

Mike, Great lesson, thanks. Just got your C Gas DVD.Just one query- can this blues piece be done in fingerpickin' style as well? I am trying to stick to the 1-2-3- thumb on 4-5-6 format for blues, and leave learning to flatpick for the moment, until it becomes necessary.RegardsColinAka Rich
