when my cat bites, I scruff her and tell her no really loudly. I don't exactly 'hit' her nose, but I tap it so it's uncomfortable for her. I also have a spray bottle hand and I will spray her.

chattering is what a cat does when it sees prey. it is practising the killing bite that it will administer if it catches the prey. this is the opinion of desmond morris, a guy that has studied cat behaviour in depth. and the biting thing may just be down to his breed and his personality- some cats are just more 'bitey' than others, but that goes hand in hand with being more friendly and playful too :)
