you're in a fortunate situation that you have a chance to read this novel. in those early years, it ain't easy to find this book in mass circulation at my location.

a screenplay adaptation from the novel does not need to follow every chapter faithfully.

Ooops, i should have read the other comments first! My bad.Bloody students, ey?aha I don't think the films should portray Clegg any differently than in the book tbh, because it creates a completely different atmosphere.

thats not how it happens in the book by John Fowles, in the book, he tricks her into thinking he's hit a dog or something like that, and then hits her into the camper van and chloroforms her , or chloforms her first. ahah .i should watch this film :) AS im studying the book in lit :)

"worst mismatch" - the two actors you mean? Yes, because of Samantha Eggar's beauty one of the few tragic film endings I didn't agree with - see "Peeping Tom" for a disturbing film with an apparent meaning; this movie was just nasty....Yes, Terence Stamp was pretty good, however from what I've read Eggar was totally not the Miranda of the book.
