Spitfire at start of ww2 then the mustang used it. The mustang engine was licened built by the Parkard co. It is much more reliable then the British built RR Merlin. Better internal parts. Longer TBO (time before overhaul)

A stock Merlin makes 1490 HP 3000 HP is possible with alot of work to the engine. I doubt he spent that kind of money.
