Well yeah, but I mean in terms of how BIG the well is, how they stacked up THOUSANDS of dead bodies during the battles later on, etc. All the things the 300 soldiers in the movie did was bombastic because the soldiers back home were imagining how it happened, probably powered by the way the story was told to them.

Section 133."When Darius some time before sent messengers for the same purpose, they were thrown, at Athens, into the barathron, at Sparta into a well, and bidden to take therefrom earth and water for themselves, and carry it to their king."So I was sort of wrong, Xerses did not send a messenger. But what happens to Xerxes messenger in 300 is what happened to the messenger of Darius in actual history.

I haven't seen this movie, but in reality, Xerxes did send a delegate, diplomat, whatever you want to call him, to the Spartans, and the Spartand did in fact kill him by throwing him down a well. If you'd like, I can see if I can pull up the primary source...

Took me a little bit of time to realize why the movie/comics were so outrageous. I mean, as ultimately badass as it is to kick someone down an open pit...why would you do that with a Historical event? Then it hit me. The narrator is the guy telling the story to all the Spartan Soldiers after the fact...which means this is how THEY picture how everything went down in THEIR minds. Imagination is a powerful thing. A++++++
