Sorry, I wrote the last comment before I saw that you replied. Anyway, I just don't like the idea of having to "rub our noses in our poop." Yes, we are lucky for being born in America. But I don't like the idea that I am automatically an ungrateful asshole just because of that fact. And I hate this as a film, not a documentary. Films should have standards of believability too. The director wrote the poem in a contrived child's voice, while the ideas were obviously his own. It's just fake.

And about your comment that I should pick through garbage and try to enjoy it- I agree with you 100%. However, this is only because I've actually lived an easier life than that. If you spend your whole life in the sewers than it will never occur to you that the place stinks like shit. Get it? Anyway, watch the film at around 4:00 and you'll notice that all the other kids still enjoy life. That footage is legit, the kid sulking around is just phony.Sorry if I seem to take this too seriously.

I see your point. I respect this film because it tries to rub our noses in our poop. I'm not wealthy, and I struggle to make my ends... but I still find ways to save up money and enjoy some really cool things. I think I'm a pretty lucky guy. I think that: if this film claimed to be a documentary, it would be total bull s#1t. But since it is a poem, I think it hits the bullseye.

I was talking about the film, and you are talking about the whole situation in Kenya. I really think you should watch a Frontline documentary or read a National Geographic article for an actually informative commentary on Kenya- this film doesn't say anything you don't already know, but just aims to make you cry. I commend your giving money to charity, though. And yes, I am thankful (I just didn't like the film, nothing to do with the poverty in Africa).

Why don't you try picking through garbage for food and try to muster up some joy. This clip does exactly what it's supposed to do. I donated to Feed The Children immediately after watching the film. I wish I could do more. I don't think anyone should have to live like that. REGARDLESS of how it is portrayed in a film. You must have it really good to be so critical and judgemental. Be thankful.
