Geneseo 48 Springfield Southeast 0
Springfield-Definitely not a marquee match-up when an 8-0 team and an 0-8 team square off, but when central Illinois football fans get the chance to see the #1 overall seed in 5A football, they should come out and take in the discipline and talent of the Big Green Machine, better known as the Geneseo Maple Leafs. Do yourself another favor and visit Geneseo's killer website at http://www.geneseofootball.com... Maple leafs turned this into a one-sided affair early, as Geneseo had a running clock before the half. #32 Sr. RB Jeremy Peters scored two first quarter rushing TD's, one a 68-yard stunner right up the middle, and the second from 9-yards out, after Peters had returned a wind-shortened Southeast punt to the 10-yard line. The Big Green Machine added four more scores in the second quarter when Peters rushed for his third TD from 22-yards out, then #35 So. RB Logan Patton rolled in from 7-yards out to make it 28-0. Later, #11 Sr. QB Bren Gillespie threw a 27-yard TD completion to #44 Sr. TE Shane Reschke, then later Gillespie added another TD completion to Peters from 15-yards out to make the score 42-0. Geneseo Sr. kicker #9 Andrew Timmerman converted all six PAT's and booted two kickoffs well out of the field of play.Geneseo finished their scoring with a 5-yard TD run by #31 Jr. RB Nathan Panicucci.Southeast moved the chains well in the first quarter, especially with big pass play conversions to #85 Sr. WR Troy Nash and #8 Sr. RB Carlston Acres. Southeast was turned away from scoring in the first half by a multiple fumbles, and timely penalties. Geneseo improves to 9-0 and the #1 overall seed in the 5A playoffs, while Southeast ends itheir season at 0-9.Great to meet and chat with IHSS member tooltime at this game...
