dave is all entertainment, the words and singin sort of got in the way of his being the ring leader live. But, he never phoned it in on the studio records. He is and will always be the ultimate front man. He's been doing this since the club days, this ain't nothin new. Think about the front men before VH then you'll realize he set the trend and was the standard bearer. Sammy? Good singer, but not a front man. More of guitar playin front man. Totally different.

sammy was a better SINGER. dave IS a better frontman, and always will be. theres a difference. with van hagar the band made synthesiser driven "80s music" - and some of it was good too. dreams, love walks in, right now,those are some great songs. but it was more like a VH cover band.just listen to panama, you really got me, eruption, hot for teacher, running with the devil, top jimmy, unchained, and tell me with a straight face that van hagar can even COMPARE to the original van halen lineup.
